Making youth spaces feel like they belonged to young people.
THE FUNDING
The programme came during a period of major national investment in young people through the Youth Opportunity Fund and Youth Capital Fund, giving young people greater influence over activities, services and the spaces created for them.
THE APPROACH
Working with Southwark Youth Services, we involved young people in shaping environments across Brandon, Damilola Taylor Centre, Success House, Camberwell and The Blue. Colour, graphics, installations and young people's ideas gave each centre its own identity — turning council facilities into places that felt more like theirs.

THE CHALLENGE
Southwark wanted more young people engaging with its youth services. The council recognised that the quality of its facilities mattered young people needed safe, welcoming places they actually wanted to use. The ambition wasn't simply to improve buildings. It was to create a network of youth spaces that felt relevant to the communities they served.
THE WIDER OUTCOME
During this period, Southwark Youth Services recorded:
-
6,460 young people accessing council youth support
-
2,432 recorded outcomes
-
1,877 accredited outcomes
-
3rd of 138 authorities for accredited outcomes

The programme also included our PUMA youth-centre project, bringing a major global brand into the youth environment.
The work went on to win Gold at the Cream Awards.
